Ghost Riders in the Sky

Song composer: Stan Jones

Lyrics author: Stan Jones

	Em	G
An	old cowboy went ridig out one	dark and windy day,

	Em
Up	on a ridge he rested as he went along his way,

	C/E	A/E	C/E
When all at once a	mighty herd of	red-eyed cows he	saw,

	C	Am	Em
Ploughin' through the ragged skies	and	up the cloudy draw.

	Em	G
Their	brands were still on fire and their	hooves were made of steel,

	Em
Their	horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel,

	C/E	A/E	C/E
A bolt of fear went	through him as they	thundered through the	sky,

	C	Am	Em
For he	saw the riders coming hard	, and he	heard their mournful cry.

		G	Em	D
	Yippee-i-	ow, yippee-i-	ay,

		C	Am	Em
		Ghost riders	in the	sky.

	Em	G
Their	faces gone, their eyes were blurred, their	shirts were soaked with sweat,

	Em
He's	riding hard to catch that herd but he ain't caught 'em yet,

	C/E	A/E	C/E
'Cause they've got to ride for	ever on that	range up in the	sky,

	C	Am	Em
All	horses snortin' fire	, as they	ride on hear their cry.

	Em	G
As the	riders loped on by him, he	heard one call his name,

	Em
If you	wanna save your soul from hell a-ridin' on our range,

	C/E	A/E	C/E
Then, cowboy, change your	ways today or	with us you will	ride,

	C	Em	Em
Tryin' to catch the devil's herd	a	cross those endless skies.

		G	Em	D
	Yippee-i-	ow, yippee-i-	ay,

		C	Am	Em
		Ghost riders	in the	sky.

		C	Am	Em
		Ghost riders	in the	sky.

		C	Am	Em
		Ghost riders	in the	sky.
